A member of Quota International of Lawrence, Massachusetts, United States, for 16 years, LuAnne Bonanno has served as Club Secretary, Club President twice, and is currently a member of the Executive Board of her club. She was Lieutenant Governor, then Governor of District 29, which was made up of clubs from Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
She is the co-owner and operator of Pleasant Valley Gardens, a fresh market vegetable farm in Methuen, MA. They grow a wide variety of vegetables, and have one acre of greenhouses where they grow a variety of vegetable and flowering plants. She began the campaign that donates the “ugly” produce to 3 homeless shelters in her town. Last summer, under her direction, over 50,000 lbs. of fresh vegetables were distributed.
LuAnne manages the farm’s 150 member Community Supported Agriculture program, which allows customers to buy a share of the farm for one season, ensuring them fresh vegetables from mid-June to mid-October.
LuAnne was chosen Mrs. Essex County in October of 2008. During her reign, she travelled her county promoting the local fair, the Topsfield Fair, and supporting local farms.
One of 15 farm women from around the country, she was fortunate to participate in the American Farm Bureau Women’s Committee Communications Boot Camp in Washington DC. She received intensive training in public speaking, and was given the chance to experience mock interviews with newspapers, radio and television. She was also given the opportunity to testify at a mock Congressional hearing.
She is the mother of three grown daughters, and “Nana” to three perfect grandsons. In her spare time, she belongs to a book club, volunteers at a local nursing home, mentors a domestic violence survivor, and donates platelets that help cancer patients.
